Time Limit for Able Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWDs): Advocacy Tools and DTA Forms

The federal SNAP “time limit” for able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) goes back into effect January 1, 2016 in Massachusetts.

In the link below are Massachusetts Department Transitional Assistance (DTA) and Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) materials to help you and your clients understand the ABAWD 3 month time limit, the wide range of exemptions, and the work/community service rules that allow ABAWDs to continue receiving benefits.  Remember: ABAWDs who are unable to work full time, chronically homeless, pregnant, live with a child OR who live in certain parts of the state with high unemployment as approved by USDA are among the many individuals exempt from these time limit rules.
